MMT Acquires Ward Automation Galway, Somex: Launches MMT Automation Division
a portfolio company of Arcline Investment Management and a global provider of medical device manufacturing solutions, has acquired Ward Automation Galway (Ward Galway), an Ireland-based provider of custom automation solutions. It has also recently acquired Somex Automation (Somex), an Ireland-based provider of custom automation equipment and processes for the medical device manufacturing industry. Both product offerings will go to market under the company’s MMT Automation brand .
The addition of these technologies and services enables MMT to better serve its medical device manufacturing customers by offering highly specialized robotization and integrated solutions for their most challenging production needs.
As part of the Ward transaction, MMT welcomes 27 new employees who will continue to operate out of Ward Galway’s facility in Galway, Ireland. As part of the Somex transaction, MMT brings aboard 34 new employees who will continue to operate out of Somex’s Cork and Ballyvourney facilities in Ireland.

Atkinson adds that the acquisition of Somex Automation is a milestone for the company. “We are excited to bring a strong business with highly skilled employees into our family,” he says. He went on to highlight how the automation and process integration expertise of Somex will become a flagship offering of the MMT Automation brand. “This transaction allows MMT to seamlessly integrate our end-to-end medical device manufacturing to further support our customers on their quest to increase production and expand their ‘lights out’ operation capabilities. The Somex team’s expertise and history of implementation is an asset to our customers.”
Michael Wall, managing director and founder of Somex, says, “We will be able to leverage the strengths of both companies and create an even more powerful offering for our customers.” Wall will also join MMT as technical director.
Atkinson noted that the recent launch of MMT Automation, its newest division, unites the automation offering across the MMT portfolio to provide a more cohesive and consistent approach to its customers’ manufacturing needs. The alignment will increase the knowledge, capabilities, and custom technology offering to benefit MMT’s customers.
