2. Breaking Through PDO Monomer Purity to Enable Full PPDO Value Chain
Poly(p-dioxanone) (PPDO) owes its exceptional flexibility and bending resistance to the unique ether bond (-O-) in its molecular backbone, making it irreplaceable in absorbable sutures, orthopedic fixation devices, tissue engineering, and drug delivery applications. However, synthesizing high-molecular-weight PPDO (weight-average molecular weight above 100,000) demands extremely stringent monomer purity — trace amounts of residual moisture, alcohols, or free acids in the reaction system will trigger chain transfer reactions, causing premature polymer chain termination and substandard molecular weight. For years, the medical-grade PPDO supply chain has been monopolized by foreign enterprises, with the key raw material PDO being entirely import-dependent.
Leveraging advanced multi-stage distillation and recrystallization purification technologies, BIODE has successfully developed high-purity medical-grade PDO monomer with an average purity of 99.999%. A proprietary dehydration process controls trace moisture to extremely low ppm levels, eliminating chain transfer at its source. All monomers are sealed under high-purity inert gas protection and transported with full moisture barrier, ensuring optimal reactivity from factory to the customer’s laboratory or workshop.
