The Royalton site has grown into the medical device manufacturer’s main hub for technology and advanced processes to manufacture medical and drug-delivery devices.

The company is adding a 13,000-square-foot Class 8 clean room capable of housing 30 injection molding machines and 17,000 square feet of warehousing space.

GW Plastics Inc. broke ground on a $10 million, 30,000-square-foot expansion of its Royalton, Vt., manufacturing and technology center to accommodate growth of its thermoplastic injection molding and medical device contract assembly business.

The expansion is expected to create 30 jobs. 

Founded in 1955 and based in nearby Bethel, Vt., the company is adding a 13,000-squarefoot Class 8 clean room capable of housing 30 injection molding machines and 17,000 square feet of warehousing space.

“On the heels of a major expansion in Ireland, we are delighted to announce this expansion in our home state of Vermont, reaffirming our commitment to growing in Vermont and the United States while serving the needs of our customers globally,”  President and CEO Brenan Riehl said in a news release.

Earlier this year, he announced a $6.8 million investment to increase product development, precision tooling, thermoplastic and liquid silicone injection molding at its site in Sligo, Ireland. The project includes expanding molding operations into a 28,000- square-foot site in the northern part of the country to meet demand for its medical and drug-delivery devices.

GW Plastics established its Royalton campus in the late 1980s with the relocation and expansion of its mold making division, followed by its process development center. The company added a thermoplastic molding facility in 1999 and LSR molding facility in 2008.The new space under construction marks the fifth expansion.

The 24-acre Royalton site has grown into the company’s main hub for product and process development, mold making, molding, and training. The campus houses some of GW Plastics’ most sophisticated technology, including 3D printers for plastic and steel and robotically assisted injection molding. With the latest expansion, the technology center will cover 90,000 square feet of advanced manufacturing space.

GW Plastics also has operations in Bethel; Grantham, N.H.; San Antonio, Texas; Tucson, Ariz.; Querétaro, Mexico; and Dongguan, China.
